9022: Wearing or sitting on skins of wild animals

It states in Al-Bukhari that you cannot wear leopard style clothing. As I was not aware of this fact before I have therefore many leopard style clothing in my wardrobe. I am not intending to buy anymore clothes of this sort, but I was wondering as I have it now, can I make use of it only at home when there's no men around? Or is it not allowed to be worn even if it's at home?.

Perhaps the questioner is referring to the hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari (5175) from al-Baraa’ ibn ‘Aazib (may Allaah be pleased with him) which says that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade al-mayaathir. 

Al-mayaathir was a kind of blanket that they used to put on the saddle of the horse, which was made of silk. And some of the scholars interpreted it as referring to the skins of wild animals. Al-Haafiz ibn Hajar (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: Or it may be understood as referring to a stuffed cushion made of animal skin. 

Fath al-Baari, 10/293 

It was proven that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade wearing the skins of wild animals or sitting on them. 

It was narrated that al-Miqdaam ibn Ma’diyakrib (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbidding the wearing of animal skins or riding on saddles made from them.     

Narrated by Abu Dawood, 4131; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 3479. 

Al-Tirmidhi (1771) and al-Nasaa’i (4253) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade using animal skins as furnishings. Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 1450. 

It was narrated from Mu’aawiyah ibn Abi Sufyaan (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade tiger skins.  

Narrated by Abu Dawood, 4239; vclassed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 3566. 

It was narrated from Mu’aawiyah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The angels do not accompany a group of people among whom there is a tiger skin.” 

Narrated by Abu Dawood, 4130; classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 3478. 

Al-Mubaarakfoori said in Tuhfat al-Ahwadhi

The ahaadeeth indicate that it is not permissible to make use of animal skins. 

The reasons why it is forbidden to make use of them are: 

1 – That involves arrogance and showing off, because it is an imitation of tyrants, and because such things are the adornment of those who live luxurious and extravagant lives. 

See Tuhfat al-Ahwadhi, and Haashiyat al-Sindi ‘ala Ibn Maajah.  

We may add another reason to that, which is that they are naajis (impure), because tanning does not make any skin pure except the skin of an animal that we are permitted to eat. Whatever we are not permitted to eat, its skin cannot be made pure by tanning. This is the view of al-Awzaa’i, ‘Abd-Allaah ibn al-Mubaarak and Ishaaq ibn Raahawayh, and it was narrated from Imam Ahmad. See Sharh Saheeh Muslim by al-Nawawi, 4/54; al-Furoo’by Ibn Muflih, 1/102 

This was also the view favoured by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him), according to one of his two opinions.Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 21/95. This view was also favoured by Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him); al-Sharh al-Mumti’, 1/74. 

If it is haraam to use these skins, it make no difference whether they are worn inside the house or outside, The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) told us that the angels do not accompany a group of people among whom there is a tiger skin, as stated above. 

It says in ‘Awn al-Ma’bood

The hadeeth indicates that it is makrooh to use tiger skins or to take them along on a journey or to bring them into the house, because the fact that the angels do not accompany a group of people among whom there is a tiger skin indicates that the angels do not join a group or enter a house where that thing is present. That can only be because it is not permissible to use it, as it was narrated that the angels do not enter a house in which there are images or pictures. That is taken as evidence that images are haraam and that putting them in houses is haraam. 

This applies if the clothes mentioned in the question are made from real tiger skins. With regard to synthetic skins whose colours resemble the colours of animal skins, it is better for him to avoid them so that he will not be accused by someone who does not know what they really are of wearing animal skins which it is haraam to wear.

Beautiful Explanation of the Opening Supplication in Salah (Prayer) – Shaykh Muhammad Amaan al Jaami (rahimahullaah)

After this, there occurs the opening supplication, which is optional, and states: “Subhaanak Allaahumma wa bia Hamdika. Wa Tabaarakasmuka wa Ta’aala Jadduka. Wa Laa ilaaha Ghayruka.”[Free from imperfections are You, O Allaah, and all praise is Yours. Blessed is Your Name, Glorified be Your Greatness, and there is no deity worthy of worship besides You]

The meaning of “Subhaanak Allaahumma” is: I absolve You from all imperfections in a manner that befits Your majesty. “Wa bi-Hamdika” i.e. while praising You. “Wa Tabaarakasmuka” i.e. blessing can be attained by mentioning You. “Wa Ta’aala Jadduka” i.e. Glorified be Your Greatness. “Wa Laa Ilaaha Ghayruka” i.e. There is nothing that has the right to be worshipped on earth or in heaven except You, O Allaah.

~ the explanation ~

The author, may Allaah have mercy on him, states here that the opening supplication is a recommended act. It is neither a pillar nor a requirement nor a condition. Rather it is supererogatory. He then went on to choose one version of the opening supplication, which is the shortest, amplest, and most comprehensive of these supplications from the perspective of praise, veneration and glorification of Allaah. And it is:“Subhaanak Allaahumma wa hi Hamdika. Wa Tabaarakasmuka wa Ta’aala Jadduka. Wa Laa Ilaaha Ghayruka.”

The great scholar Ibn Al-Qayyim listed a number of opening supplications in his book Zaad al-Ma’aad. But he preferred this supplication over the numerous other ones of this nature, some of which are longer. This is due to the fact that this concise supplication contains such praise, veneration and glorification for Allaah the likes of which cannot be found in other supplications. Other supplications consist more of requests and invocations whereas this one consists of (purely) glorification, honoring and exaltation (of Allaah).

The author then takes it upon himself to explain this supplication as well as what comes after it. The meaning of: “Subhaanak Allaahumma” is: “I absolve You, O Lord, in a manner that befits You, from all imperfections.”  This is an absolving that befits His majesty, and it is derived from the Qur’aan and the Sunnah.

The people are divided in their definitions of absolving Allaah from imperfections. Some people have defined it as negating Allaah’s Attributes, which is why the Jahmiyyah and Mu’tazilah have negated all of Allaah’s Attributes, claiming that they are removing imperfections from Allaah. The reason for this (according to them) is because if one affirms Attributes for Allaah, this leads to likening Allaah to His creation. So, according to them, freeing Allaah from imperfections can only be achieved by negating His Attributes.

The Ashaa’irah and the Matooridiyyah did the same with respect to the textual Attributes. The textual Attributes are those attributes for which the intellect plays no part in affirming. They are only affirmed by way of narrations and textual proofs. According to the understanding of the Ashaa’irah, affirming these attributes literally goes against removing imperfections from Allaah. So as a result they resorted to taweel (misinterpretation). They did not negate the Attributes as others did. Rather, they claimed that what was literally stated in these texts was not what Allaah intended. So therefore, interpreting them them with other than their literal meanings is binding based on the claim of removing imperfections from Allah.

You will notice that everyone who negates or distorts the meaning of Allaah’s Attributes claims to be removing imperfections from Allaah by what they do. When the first group negated Allaah’s Attributes, they did not intend disrespect for Allaah. Rather, according to their claim, they only intended to remove imperfections from Him. But where is this removal of imperfections? They went astray in this regard. Why did they go astray? Because they looked for guidance in other than Allaah’s Book.Whoever searches for guidance in other than the Book of Allaah and in other than what the Messenger brought, will no doubt go astray. This is a principle. Whoever looks for guidance and truth in other than what the Messenger of Allaah came with will be misguided as recompense for turning away (from the Qur’aan and the Sunnah). This is since guidance, correctness and truth is restricted to only that which the Messenger of Allaah (peace be upon him) brought.

If we want to know the true manner of removing Allaah, from imperfections in a manner that befits His majesty, we should read Allaah’s statement:“There is nothing like Him (in comparison), and He is the All Hearer, the All-Seer.” [Surah Ash-Shooraa: 11]

Is there a greater example of removing imperfections from Allaah than this? Allaah affirms Attributes for Himself but negates any comparisons in those Attributes that He has affirmed. This is what is meant by tanzeeh (removing imperfections from Allaah). It is that you affirm for Him what He has affirmed for Himself from complete Attributes, perfect Names and flawless Actions.

Affirm for Him what He has affirmed for Himself. Then negate any comparisons to what He has affirmed (for Himself) since no one can desribe Allaah who is more knowledgeable than Him. Also affirm for what His trusted Messenger has described Him with and negate my comparisons to what he (peace be upon him) has affirmed, since no one can describe Allaah from His creation who is more knowledgeable than Allaah’s Messenger (peace be upon him).

This is how Allaah has guided the people of truth and the callers to truth. So they know how to remove imperfections from Allaah without negating His Attributes, distorting their meaning, making comparisons to them or likening them to His creation. This is the point the author is trying to make when he says: “I absolve You from alt imperfections, my Lord, in a manner that befits You.” This is the type of removing of imperfections from Allaah that befits His majesty, which has been derived from the Qur’an and the Sunnah.

“Wa bi-Hamdika” means: “while praising You.” So this consists of removing imperfections from Allaah while at the same time praising Him. But on the other hand, if you have negated Allaah’s Perfect Attributes, how can you then praise Him?! If you have negated the Attribute of Mercy from Allaah, how can you praise Him? You say that it is impossible for Allaah to have Mercy and that Love is something impossible for Allaah. He is neither loved nor does He love. How then can you praise him when you negate Mercy from Him?

You heard previously the qudsee hadeeth about Al-Faatihah in which it is stated: “And when the servant says: Ar-Rahmaan-ir-Raheem‘, Allaah says: ‘My servant has extolled Me.” As for the one who negates the Attribute of Mercy from Allaah, it is not possible for Him to praise Allaah, since praising Allaah can only be achieved through His exemplary Names, Attributes, and Actions.

“Wa Tabaarakusmuka” means: Blessing is achieved by mentioning You. Your Name is removed from any imperfections and blessing is achieved through mention of Your Name. This is how the author (Muhammad bin Abdil-Wahhaab) has explained it.

“Wa Ta’aala jadduka” means: Glorified be Your greatness grandness. The word “jadd” here takes on the meaning of grandness and self sufficiency. So it means: “Glorified be Your Grandness and self-sufficiency.”

This means that: “No one on earth or in heaven is worshipped with due right except for You, O Allaah.” The phrase “with due right” must be mentioned when explaining the meaning of “Laa Ilaaha illaaAllaah. You must include “due right” or “rightfully” or else the meaning will be wrong. If you were to say: “There is no one worshipped in the heavens or on the earth except for You” we would be contradicting reality since those who are worshipped are many. But the one who is worshipped after all others have been negated is the One who is worshipped in truth or with “due right.”

There is no one worshipped on earth or in heaven with due right except for You. As for those who are worshipped in the heavens and the earth, the worship of them is futile and invalid. The sun and the moon are worshipped but worshiping them is invalid. Trees are worshipped. Many of the large trees with many branches (known as dawhaat) are still worshipped today. This goes also for stones, tombs and shrines. The worship of these things is futile.

This also applies to the worship of Jinn and the worship of graves. Every time something is worshipped, it becomes known as a “god” according to the language. It is not called Allaah, but rather a “false” god. The term “god” is general and encompasses the One who is worshipped with due right as well as those that are worshipped wrongfully. The word “Allaah” is specifically reserved for the One who is worshipped with due right – the Creator of the heavens and the earth. Them is no one worshipped in the heavens or the earth (with due right)except for you, O Allaah.

قَالَ رَجُلَانِ مِنَ الَّذِينَ يَخَافُونَ أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمَا ادْخُلُوا عَلَيْهِمُ الْبَابَ فَإِذَا دَخَلْتُمُوهُ فَإِنَّكُمْ غَالِبُونَ وَعَلَى اللَّهِ فَتَوَكَّلُوا إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

Two men of those who feared, upon both of whom Allah had bestowed a favor, said: Enter upon them by the gate, for when you have entered it you shall surely be victorious, and on Allah should you rely if you are believers.
[Quran, 5:23]

It seems worries take over my mind from the moment I wake up...

You must have had those moments when you felt so strong, thinking:whatever needs to happen will happen. That sweet feeling of trusting in Allaah subhanahu wa ta’alaa is priceless, granting an amazing peace of mind.

Then there are the times you get tense. You worry. You feel a knot in your stomach. What if things just don’t get better? What if I lose him or her? What if I get ill?

Musa ‘alayhi sallam was standing with his people. He invited them to enter Palestine, but they refused. Why? They were scared. Scared of the future. Scared to be hurt. Scared to fail. Then two courageous believers stood up and announced:

Enter upon them through the gate, for when you enter it, you will be the dominant. And rely upon Allah (have Tawakkul), if you are believers.
[Quran, 5:23]

Rely upon Allah, if you are believers.Let’s learn how this beautiful Quranic advice can make us more productive!

Tawakkul, a Garden in This World

Tawakkul is reliance on Allahsubhanahu wa ta’alaa. You trust in Allah’s plan and accept whatever He decides, regardless of the results. At first that seems difficult, but in reality it is a very natural and easy thing to do.

Imagine you have a certain illness and you have the chance to go to the best specialist in the whole world. Wouldn’t you feel at ease, fully entrusting your health to him?

We have the Ultimate Trustee to whom we can entrust our affairs and we can be 100% sure He’ll look after them in the best way possible for every single individual. He is Allah, Al-Wakeel.

Give Yourself Over

The word tawakkul also comes from the root وكل (w-k-l), which means “to give oneself over to, to rely/depend on, or have confidence in another.” Tawakkul means that you teach and train yourself to give yourself over to, to rely on, and to have full confidence in Allahsubhanahu wa ta’alaa.

You can really understand this concept when you’re facing challenges and stress in your life. I can’t say it enough: when you manage to have tawakkul, you’ll feel so relieved. So strong. And so productive.

How to Have Tawakkul: 5 Tips

Here are some tips and motivators on how to train yourself to rely upon Allah alone.

1.      Never be lazy.

Tawakkul sometimes is mistaken for “sitting back” and thinking your problems will be solved just by believing Allah will take care of your affairs. But look at what emaan is. It is not just having faith, as it’s often translated. It’s the combination of faith and acting upon that faith.

The same goes for tawakkul. Don’t give up on your own efforts. Rather strive and work with the attitude that Allah will take care of your affairs and will help you get through your trials. This proactive attitude is in fact part of you havingtawakkul.

Remember when the Prophetsalallaahu alayhi wa sallam asked the Bedouin, “Why don’t you tie down your camel?” The Bedouin answered, “I put my trust in Allah.” The Prophet then said, “Tie your camel first, then put your trust in Allah” [At-Tirmidhi].

2.      Never be arrogant.

You should always plan and work based on what Allah has blessed you with in knowledge, intelligence, and free will. You should fully use those blessings by thanking Allah for them, without ever feeling proud or arrogant about your abilities. You work, but it is Allah who gave you the ability to work, and ultimately it’s the favor of Allah which will make you successful or not.

3.         Go for the fruit.

Accept whatever happens.  You should believe that Allah ‘azza wajal out of His wisdom may decide to supersede all your plans for reasons that only He knows. This is the fruit of tawakkul. Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali said, The fruit of tawakkul is the acceptance of Allah’s decree. Whoever leaves his affairs to Allah and then is accepting of what he is given has truly relied on Allah.

Remind yourself that believing in al-Qadr (Allah’s divine will and decree) is one of the pillars of your faith. Tell yourself that whatever will happen will happen and that you can only do the best you can.

Allah al-Qadeer will never ever let something bad happen to you, even though you might fear it. In every matter is good for a believer. If you live by this fact, what can get you down? You might bend, but you’ll never break!

4.         Precaution!

Even as Prophet Yaqub alayhi sallam took all precautionary measures when he sent his sons to Egypt and advised them to enter from different gates of the city, so they wouldn’t look suspicious. His measures were overtaken by the divine decree. But still he took all the measures he could to avoid any possible risk.  

This is where most of us go wrong. We either rely on our efforts and measures and discard our trust in Allah, or we rely on “trust in Allah” and don’t adopt any practical measures to solve our problems.

5.      Rejoice— Allah is al-Wakeel.

Allah is al-Wakeel, the ultimate and the best trustee. Everything He decrees for us is good for us. He’s the best disposer of affairs. He’s sufficient for all of us.  So aren’t you “lucky” you can entrust your affairs to Him? Remind yourself that Allah is the ultimate trustee; give yourself and your affairs over to Him with a sense of full comfort and certainty in your heart.

Benefits of Tawakkul: 3 steps to Success

Let’s strive to understand and applytawakkul in our daily lives. Because when you taste that amazing feeling of peace in your mind, strength in your limbs, and the breeze of tranquility in your heart, you’ll never want to be without it again!

Train yourself to have tawakkul and you’ll notice that things will not only get resolved more easily with His help, but tawakkul will also relieve you from your daily worries.

Finally, before making any effort, remind yourself of these 3 steps:

Put your trust in Allah Al-WakeelUse your God-granted faculties to put in your best effortsBelieve in Qada wal-qadr (the divine decree)

May Allah subhanahu wa ta’alaa make our words and actions the result of tawakkul, aid us to use all His blessings the best way we can while depending on Him, and strengthen us with unshakable belief in His Decree by accepting whatever He chooses to be the outcome, ameen!

What do you do in a case where you leave in a non muslim country and halaal jobs are hard to find,pliz advise me,,I have run out of ideas,where ever I try working,it always ends up a disastrous job

I hope to repent on my mistakes but what iv done i have ask allah swt to help clear with out any harm to my family, i needed help iv always been showered with his mercey i kept thinking he mite this time not give me my help…. But deep down inside i have hop takwa my allah will rain that mercy on me again , may allah take shaytani doubts out of my heart and mind ammen
